Dinner

We suggest that you eat dinner before you arrive, or bring a picnic. The nearest restaurant or grocery store is 13 miles away! FireTree has a picnic area with grills a few hundred feet from your room, but no other cooking facilities. BRING YOUR OWN charcoal and lighter fluid. Grills may be shared.

Walking

FireTree is designed for walking. In order to preserve the peace, serenity, and beauty of FireTree, we do not allow cars everywhere. Depending on where you are staying, you may have to walk from the parking area. Distances vary between about 5 and 100 meters

NO SMOKING except OUTSIDE.

If you smoke outside, please be sure to PUT YOUR CIGARETTE BUTTS IN A CONTAINER and put them in the trash.

Breakfast

Come to breakfast any time between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM.

You can arrange with us to have breakfast as early as 7:30, but not earlier.

Breakfast at FireTree is very simple. You will probably be served coffee and orange juice, breakfast cake, and home-made toast with jam and butter.

Wildlife

FIRETREE IS WILDERNESS!

Our environment has far fewer poisons than areas near farmland or cities. Because of this, we have all the insects you would expect in this part of the world. We almost never have mosquitoes or noseeums, and our guests have never been bitten by other insects. You may use insect repellent on your skin and nowhere else. Sometimes we have crickets which sing! Some people like the sound but if crickets bother you perhaps you should bring some ear plugs.

We also have many other forms of wildlife, ranging from foxes and snakes to mice, lizards, owls, bats, and toads. Sometimes, you may encounter this wildlife, and it might come into your hogan, so don't be surprised! In the 18 years FireTree has been in operation, no one has been harmed by any of the wildlife. But you have been WARNED!

Cars

You may encounter sand on the road, but just keep going and do not slow down.

Motorcycles

No motorcycles (they may be unable to navigate our road)

Motor homes

We do not have space for large motor homes.

Allergies

The desert has many plants which produce pollen. Usually, your allergies will not be better in the desert than they are in other climates. We also have more dust than in wet climates. FireTree keeps cats which are not allowed inside, but if you are highly allergic this might be a problem.

Wifi

We are happy for you to use the wifi, but we ask you not to download large files. Also, since it is satellite internet, it may be slow or it may not work. The wifi may not work in the rooms, depending on your device.
